WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States and China are unlikely to reach a trade deal this year, and bilateral talks could extend into next year, a Reuters report said on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the negotiations.
US officials believe that abolishing tariffs on Chinese goods may not allow discussion of intellectual property and technology transfer issues, which is not a victory for US President Donald Trump, the report said.
At the same time, the report spoke of the concerns of US trade negotiators about the reactions of the US president to any trade agreement that may be reached, as the US president may object to the terms of the agreement at any time.
US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that trade talks between the United States and China will continue and that China still wants to complete the trade agreement between the two countries.
